Proposals Invited from Peace Nexus Grants Program 226 for integrating conflict-sensitive approaches into their organization and actions for West and Central Africa, Local, national, and regional organisations working in the environmental sector across West and Central Africa play a critical role in protecting ecosystems rich in biodiversity.
However, these organisations operate in increasingly complex environments shaped by growing pressure on natural resources, climate change impacts, insecurity, and weakened governance structures. In such contexts, there is a risk that well-intentioned environmental or climate actions may unintentionally intensify existing tensions or conflicts if conflict dynamics are not adequately understood and addressed.
At the same time, many environmental and conservation actors have strong access to local communities, including those in remote areas, and possess in-depth knowledge of local social, cultural, and political dynamics. This positions them uniquely to encourage cooperation among diverse and sometimes divided groups, and to contribute, directly or indirectly, to social cohesion and peacebuilding efforts.
Recognising these opportunities and challenges, environmental stakeholders may require targeted support to assess how conflict sensitivity relates to their organisational strategies, programmes, and operations. Strengthening this capacity can enhance the overall effectiveness and sustainability of environmental interventions in fragile and dynamic contexts.
Applicants are encouraged to carefully review the full details and submit their applications before the specified deadline to seize this grant opportunity.
