Proposals Invited for 2026 Enhanced and meaningful women’s participation in peace and security efforts in Ethiopia, UN Women’s call for proposals aims to support civil society organizations (CSOs) in strengthening their institutional capacities and empowering rights-holders to advance gender equality in Ethiopia. The initiative focuses on enhancing the capabilities of women peacebuilders and CSOs to meaningfully and effectively participate in the implementation of the National Action Plan on UNSCR 1325, including through active engagement in the national dialogue process.

Building on existing partnerships and prior experience, the call seeks to promote women’s leadership in peacebuilding, positioning CSOs at the forefront of convening, facilitating, and sustaining inclusive peacebuilding efforts. Through this support, UN Women aims to reinforce the role of CSOs as key drivers of participatory, gender-responsive peacebuilding processes.

The UN Women Ethiopia Country Office invites capable civil society organizations (CSOs) to support efforts that enhance women’s meaningful participation in national-level peacebuilding, conflict resolution, and security governance processes.

This call is a time-bound intervention that aligns with Ethiopia’s commitments under UNSCR 1325, the broader Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda, and the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 5 (Gender Equality) and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions).

Programme Focus Areas for Proposals Invited for 2026 Enhanced and meaningful women’s participation in peace and security efforts in Ethiopia

 

The initiative will support interventions in the following priority areas:

  • Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) and humanitarian action
  • Implementation of Ethiopia’s National Action Plan (NAP) on UNSCR 1325
  • Women’s meaningful participation in peacebuilding and conflict resolution
  • Community-based peacebuilding efforts
  • Institutional capacity building for women-led organizations
  • Promotion of gender equality and women’s empowerment
  • Protection from human rights violations, including sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV)
  • Inclusive decision-making in peace and security processes
  • Alignment with SDG 5 and SDG 16

Grant Information

Eligible proposals must meet the following financial criteria:

  • Funding Request Range: Proposals should request a total budget between USD 120,000 and USD 130,000.
  • Budget Currency: All budgets must be prepared and submitted in Ethiopian Birr (ETB).
  • Exchange Rate: Applicants should apply the UN Operational Exchange Rate in effect on the proposal submission deadline to convert costs from USD to ETB.
Eligibility Criteria 

Eligible applicants must be civil society organizations (CSOs) with demonstrated experience and proven capacity to contribute to the Women, Peace and Security agenda.

Required Experience

Applicants should have a strong track record in the following areas:

  • Peacebuilding
  • Conflict resolution
  • Advocacy for women’s participation and leadership

Operational Reach

CSOs must demonstrate evidence of effective work at:

  • Grassroots level, and/or
  • National level

Institutional Capacity

Organizations must have the institutional ability to design and implement a national-level, time-bound project aligned with Ethiopia’s commitments under the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) framework.
