Each selected network can receive up to NOK 1.5 million for a project period of up to three years, drawn from a total funding pool of NOK 33 million. To qualify, proposals must be submitted by consortia that involve research-performing institutions from a minimum of four Nordic countries. The initiative is aimed at early-career scholars, and project leaders are required to have between two and seven years of postdoctoral research experience.

NordForsk invites applications for the establishment of up to 22 Nordic exploratory research networks. Proposals should fall within the thematic scope of the call and must be submitted by eligible research consortia.
Eligibility Requirements for Apply for Research Grant 2026 Nordic exploratory networks within the humanities and social sciences
To be considered for funding, all of the following conditions must be satisfied:
Submission Requirements
- Applications must be submitted electronically via the NordForsk Call and Application Portal before the deadline.
- All proposal documents must be prepared in English.
Consortium Structure
- The consortium must include research-performing organisations from at least four Nordic countries.
- For this call, Nordic countries include: Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, the Faroe Islands, Greenland, and the Åland Islands.
- Project partners must also be research-performing organisations.
Host Organisation (Project Owner)
- The host institution must be an established research-performing organisation—such as a university, university college, or research institute—located in one of the countries funding the call (same list of Nordic countries as above).
Project Leader Requirements
- Must hold a PhD and be employed by the Project Owner during the entire project period.
- Must be an early-career researcher, defined as having 2–7 years of postdoctoral experience.
- Must agree to participate in the distributed peer-review process outlined in the assessment criteria.
Participation Restrictions
- An individual may only take part in one proposal under this call, either as project leader or participant.
Documentation Requirements
- The application must include a signed Letter of Commitment from the Project Owner.
- The letter must be signed by a person authorised to incur financial obligations on behalf of the organisation for the full project duration.
Geopolitical Restrictions
- Organisations located in Russia, Belarus, or Russian-occupied territories of Ukraine are not permitted to participate.
Applications that fail to meet any of the above eligibility criteria will not be considered for further review.
