Projects related to sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are not eligible, except those specifically focused on bacterial vaginosis.

Each year, the call for proposals focuses on a specific research theme selected by the Foundation’s International Scientific Committee. Projects may have a maximum duration of three years.

The Applicants
The grant is open to MDs, PhDs, and Pharm-Ds working in relevant fields such as gynecology, obstetrics, microbiology, infectious diseases, internal medicine, oncology, and related disciplines. There are no geographic restrictions, and researchers from all countries are eligible to apply.
A Principal Investigator who has previously received a Women’s Health International Grant from BMF is not eligible to apply for another award in this category for three years. However, recipients of other BMF grant categories may apply for the Women’s Health International Grant.
Members of the Women’s Health International Scientific Committee (WHISC) and members of their laboratories cannot apply as Principal Investigators. If a potential conflict of interest arises involving a WHISC member, that member will not participate in reviewing, discussing, or voting on the affected proposal.

The Grant
The annual grant is valued at €200,000 and is awarded to researchers working within universities, hospitals, or other research institutions. For transparency, applicants must inform the Foundation about any additional funding already received or requested for the submitted project.
Recipients must provide a final report within six months following completion of the project. For projects lasting more than one year, annual interim reports must also be submitted on each anniversary of the project’s start.
Researchers must acknowledge BMF support in communications and publications resulting from the funded work using the statement: “This work was (partially) supported by the Biocodex Microbiota Foundation.” Copies of relevant publications and communications must also be provided to the Foundation.
Applicants authorize the Biocodex Microbiota Foundation to publicize its support for the project and grant, including publishing a non-confidential summary of the proposal on the BMF website and through other communication channels.
