This initiative is particularly valuable for women entrepreneurs who are developing healthcare innovations but need financial support, technology partnerships and market access to bring their products and services to a wider audience.

Key reasons why this opportunity matters include:

  1. Promotes Women-Led Entrepreneurship: The initiative creates opportunities for women founders, co-founders and CXOs to develop and expand businesses in the femtech sector.
  2. Addresses Unmet Women’s Healthcare Needs: It encourages innovations targeting overlooked or inadequately addressed health concerns, including reproductive health, hormonal conditions, maternal care and women’s cancers.
  3. Supports Startups at Different Growth Stages: Both early-stage and growth-stage startups can benefit from opportunities designed to help them develop, validate and scale their innovations.
  4. Strengthens Technology and Market Access: Investment opportunities and ecosystem-level linkages can help startups access the expertise, partnerships and commercial networks needed to advance their solutions.
  5. Accelerates Healthcare Innovation: By encouraging technologies such as AI-driven healthcare, advanced diagnostics and digital health solutions, the initiative can contribute to more accessible and effective women’s healthcare services.
  6. Builds a Stronger Femtech Ecosystem: The call can help increase the visibility of women-led healthcare ventures and encourage greater participation in India’s growing health innovation ecosystem.

What Makes a Strong Proposal?

A competitive application for the BIRAC Femtech Call should demonstrate a clear understanding of an unmet women’s healthcare need, present a credible and differentiated solution, and explain how the startup intends to develop or scale its innovation. Applicants should pay particular attention to the following aspects:

  1. Clearly Define the Healthcare Problem: Identify the specific women’s health challenge your innovation seeks to address. Explain who is affected, why existing solutions are insufficient and what gap your product or service intends to fill.
  2. Demonstrate Innovation and Differentiation: Clearly explain what makes your technology, product or service different from existing alternatives. Highlight its innovative features, practical applications and potential benefits for women.
  3. Showcase Technology Development and Validation: Provide evidence of the current development stage of your solution. Include details of prototypes, testing, clinical validation, user feedback, research findings or pilot results, wherever available.
  4. Present a Viable Business and Market Strategy: Demonstrate that there is a genuine market need for your solution. Identify your target customers, potential users, revenue model, market opportunities and strategy for commercialisation and expansion.
  5. Highlight the Team’s Expertise: Introduce the founders and key team members, explaining their technical knowledge, healthcare experience, entrepreneurial capabilities and ability to implement the proposed plans.
  6. Address Regulatory and Intellectual Property Requirements: Explain the relevant regulatory approvals, compliance requirements and intellectual property considerations associated with your innovation. Where applicable, describe your patent status, IP protection strategy and pathway towards commercialisation.
  7. Provide a Realistic Growth and Scale-up Plan: Outline how the proposed support will help advance the startup. Set measurable milestones covering product development, validation, partnerships, market entry and expansion.
  8. Demonstrate Potential Impact on Women’s Health: Explain how the innovation could improve healthcare access, affordability, early diagnosis, treatment outcomes or overall well-being. Wherever possible, support the expected impact with measurable indicators.

A strong proposal should connect technological innovation with a clearly established healthcare need and a realistic pathway to market adoption.
