If you’re passionate about cities, curious about how they function, and eager to uncover the layers that shape everyday urban life in India’s smaller towns, this fellowship is for you.
Through the fellowship, you will:
Explore your own city deeply, developing an intimate and nuanced understanding of its rhythms, systems, and lived realities.
Uncover overlooked narratives by listening to and documenting the voices of people who make the city what it is.
Bridge research and storytelling, turning your observations into accessible knowledge and representation.
Build community-rooted contributions, laying the groundwork for long-term civic and social impact.
Grow as a practitioner, developing a portfolio that blends research, policy, and creative documentation.
Eligibility

To apply for the Nāgrika Fellowship, applicants must:
Between 21 to 27 years old.
Living in a small city in India (Population less than 20 Lakhs as per 2011 census) – Use this link to verify your city population. You need to be in this city for the entire duration of the fellowship
Are enrolled in a bachelor’s level programme or have earned an equivalent degree recognized in India.
To complete the fellowship successfully you must be:
Committed to devote 30-40 hours per month for the duration of the fellowship (6 months)
Attend all the online and two in-person seminars
Have working proficiency in English as all sessions will be held in English
