Goals and Objectives (Apply for Sustainable Communities through Women’s Empowerment Project in Moldova  Phase 2 Grants)

The support programme aims to advance sustainable development and enhance the resilience of 20 partner communities through targeted activities focused on climate change adaptation and greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction.

Key Goals:

  • Integrating gender-sensitive climate adaptation: Incorporate gender-responsive measures into development planning across all levels and key sectors to ensure long-term resilience of economic, social, and environmental systems.
  • Mitigating climate change: Develop and implement gender-sensitive strategies to reduce GHG emissions and mitigate climate change, ultimately lowering societal vulnerability.
  • Fostering public-private partnerships: Create collaborations between public and private sectors to protect the environment and strengthen local resilience to climate change impacts.

This programme focuses on building sustainable, climate-resilient communities while ensuring that gender considerations are central to all adaptation and mitigation efforts.

Expected Results (Apply for Sustainable Communities through Women’s Empowerment Project in Moldova  Phase 2 Grants)

As a continuation of its first phase, the project is focused on achieving the following key outcomes:

  • Strengthening capacity for transformative climate action: Enhance the ability of national and local authorities to advance climate action through a gender lens. This will be achieved by integrating climate and gender considerations into key policy documents and fostering multi-stakeholder engagement, ensuring a coordinated and inclusive response to climate challenges at all levels.
  • Empowering women’s leadership in climate action: Promote and develop women’s leadership in climate change adaptation and mitigation efforts at both the national and local levels. Through education, capacity building, and a leadership fellowship program, the project will empower women as leaders and agents of change, contributing to more inclusive and sustainable development.
  • Scaling up women-led climate-smart solutions: Identify, support, and scale up climate-smart solutions led by women within women’s groups and target communities. This includes promoting sustainable practices and creating economic opportunities through climate-smart interventions in women-led households and agricultural enterprises.
  • Raising awareness and sharing success stories: Raise public awareness of women-led climate-smart solutions through information campaigns, the development of a gender-sensitive knowledge management platform, and increased visibility of the project. By sharing success stories and involving key stakeholders in various campaigns, the project will foster a culture of climate awareness and encourage gender-responsive climate action.

This project builds on past successes and strives to create a sustainable, inclusive approach to climate action by placing women at the forefront of solutions.

  2. Communities with SEAPs from 2020: Communities that have previously developed Sustainable Energy Action Plans (SEAPs) up to 2020 and now need updates to incorporate new considerations on sustainable energy, climate change, energy poverty, or gender-related aspects.
  3. Communities without existing plans: Communities that have not yet developed a Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (PDUEC) but are interested in starting the planning process and developing their own sustainable energy and climate strategies.
