Each year, the ECO-Award highlights achievements in advancing research, translating knowledge into action, and introducing novel approaches that strengthen the environmental studies community.

• For the 2025 ECO-Award, two winners will be chosen to share up to $1,000 in prizes along with complimentary memberships to the Environmental Studies Association of Canada (ESAC).

Eligibility Criteria (Apply for Environmental Communitys Organizer ECO Award Canada 2025)

• The Environmental Studies Association of Canada (ESAC) is pleased to accept nominations for the annual Environmental Community’s Organizer Award (ECO-Award). Each year, the ECO-Award honors individuals, or groups who have positively contributed to the field of environmental studies in Canada through community-building, research, knowledge-to-action, and/or innovations in practice or approaches. The award committee will happily consider nominees from academic, practitioner, community-based and other backgrounds.
• ESAC defines environmental studies as a transdisciplinary field that investigates, educates, guides, supports, or acts upon human-environmental relationships.
• We particularly encourage nominations for or applications from individuals or groups working in interdisciplinary and multi-sectoral teams to advance the field of environmental studies through the development, enhancement, or expansion of innovative collaborations and networks.
• Two winners will be selected for the 2025 ECO-Award! They will collectively receive up to $1000 in prizes as well as complimentary ESAC memberships. Evaluation criteria will consider the individual or group status of nominees.

Selection Process (Apply for Environmental Communitys Organizer ECO Award Canada 2025)

The ECO-Award selection committee will evaluate nominees based on the following criteria:

1. The nominee works within the field of environmental studies in Canada;
2. The nominee contributes to community-building within the field of environmental studies through the creation of partnerships, networks, relationships and projects;
3. The nominee demonstrates collaborative and reciprocal relationships and partnerships to address issues of importance to the field of environmental studies;
4. The nominee increases environmental awareness through knowledge-sharing and outreach activities;
5. The nominee encourages environmental action and empowers and supports others to become involved in activities related to the field of environmental studies; and
6. The nominee promotes the mobilization of knowledge and research to action and practice.

How to Apply?

Please provide the following information via the Google Form in the link below by  11:59 PM EST on February 15, 2025 :

• Basic information about the candidate (name, contact); and
• A description of the candidate’s initiative, work or project (max. 750 words). This should include the description of the project, how it contributes to improving the environment, who are the benefactors, what future avenues exist, etc.
• Have the opportunity to submit up to 5 pages of relevant supporting documents such as CVs, testimonials, publications, deliverables, results, impact indicators, etc.

The award selection will be made by the ACÉE Awards Committee. Winners will be notified by May, formally announced, and honored virtually at the 2025 ACÉE Annual General Meeting in early June 2025.
