Position: Research Associate (RA) – Assessing the Commercial Potential of Indian STEM institutes
Type: Full-time Location: School of Public Policy, IIT Delhi Duration: 6 months (with possibility of extension, subject to performance)
Salary: INR 48,000-65,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience (as per IIT Delhi norms)
About the Project:

This project, jointly led by Prof. Suma Athreye (Professor, School of Public Policy, IIT Delhi) and Dr. Sugat Chaturvedi (Assistant Professor, School of Public Policy, IIT Delhi), examines the relationship between scientific research and technological innovation.
The project will build a database to investigate how scientific knowledge translates into innovation and to develop systematic evidence on the extent to which innovation is science-backed.
Key Responsibilities

- Collect and clean large-scale published data including implementing web scraping pipelines to gather structured/unstructured information
- Support basic text analysis and exploratory machine learning/Econometric models • Contribute to creating analysis tables and visualizations of results in LaTeX This position is ideal for candidates looking to pursue graduate studies and gain hands-on research experience at the intersection of innovation, data science, and public policy. Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s/Master’s in Public Policy, Economics, Computer Science, or related fields
- Strong programming skills in Python (mandatory)
- Experience with data cleaning, scraping, and handling large datasets
- Interest in science, technology, and innovation policy Preferred (not required, but a plus):
- Familiarity with machine learning / natural language processing techniques
- Prior experience working with patent or publication datasets
- Knowledge of econometrics/statistical analysis
