Overview of Grant Opportunity Apply Now for Nutrition Programme 2026-2030 for Uganda

The Government of Uganda (GoU), in collaboration with UNICEF, is implementing the Nutrition Programme 2026–2030 to tackle critical gaps in dietary intake and nutrition practices among children, adolescents, and women of reproductive age. The programme addresses a wide spectrum of challenges, including undernutrition, stunting, wasting, anemia, as well as the rising burden of overweight and obesity. A key priority is to expand access to quality care for children suffering from wasting by strengthening health systems for early identification, referral, and treatment.

Although Uganda has made notable progress in reducing stunting over the past 30 years, nearly 2 million children continue to be affected. This is largely due to rapid population growth and persistent underlying factors such as child food poverty, low dietary diversity, poor caregiving practices, and inadequate access to essential services. The situation is especially critical in regions like Karamoja and refugee settlements such as Kyaka II, where stunting rates are alarmingly high. Additionally, adolescents and adult women face increasing health risks from anemia and a growing prevalence of overweight and obesity, further intensified by climate shocks, food insecurity, and systemic weaknesses in the food system.
