Applicant Eligibility

Eligible applicants include:

Registered non-profit organizations in Saskatchewan, with priority given to Métis-led organizations. Non-Métis-led organizations may also apply if they demonstrate meaningful Métis access and leadership in delivering the proposed activities.

Organizations must:

• Have a primarily cultural mandate or demonstrate significant involvement in cultural activities.
• Have operated as a registered non-profit for at least one full fiscal year.
• Be in good standing with Information Services Corporation (ISC).
• Have no outstanding grant follow-ups with SaskCulture.
• Provide the most recently submitted annual financial statement with the required signatures.

Métis Locals, Métis Regions, and Municipalities may also apply if they are in good standing with the Sask Lotteries Community Grant Program and have no outstanding SaskCulture grant follow-ups.

Ineligible Applicants

The fund does not accept applications from:

• Federal or provincial government organizations or departments, including Crown corporations.
• Organizations receiving operational funding directed by the Government of Saskatchewan.
• Organizations exclusively promoting religious or political viewpoints.
• Districts for Sport, Culture and Recreation.
• Organizations receiving operational funding directly from the Culture Section of Saskatchewan Lotteries Trust Fund.
• Schools and post-secondary institutions.
• Libraries.
• Businesses.
• Unincorporated groups.
• Individuals.

Project Eligibility

Projects must:

• Directly address the objectives and priorities of the MCDF.
• Use trauma-informed approaches to avoid causing further harm.
• Benefit Métis cultural development and Saskatchewan residents.
• Follow the fund’s requirements regarding other SaskCulture grants.
• Not receive funding from multiple SaskCulture programs for the same activity and period.
• Start no earlier than November 26, 2026, which is eight weeks after the application deadline.
• Be completed within one year of the project start date.

Eligible Expenses

Funding can support direct costs associated with developing and delivering eligible cultural projects, including:

• Wages, honoraria, and contracts for Métis cultural resource people.
• Travel expenses for participants within Saskatchewan, including fuel, vehicle rental, bus transportation, and airfare.
• Materials and cultural protocol costs related to the project.
• Additional facility costs when extra space is required.
• Food that forms part of the cultural experience or helps reduce participation barriers.
• Advertising and promotion, generally up to 10% of the total grant request unless a strong justification is provided.

Ineligible Expenses

MCDF funding cannot be used for:

• Construction, renovations, repairs, or other capital expenses.

• Volunteer hours.
• Personal expenses, allowances, or wages for participants.
• Salaries and expenses of existing organizational staff, except when hired specifically as cultural workers.

• Travel or program expenses for out-of-province participants.
• Activities taking place outside Saskatchewan.
• Office and administrative costs, including utilities, rent, and use of the applicant’s existing facilities.
