Why This Opportunity Matters
The Youth Harbour Amplify Grant is valuable because it provides dedicated funding for marketing, communications, storytelling, and community engagement rather than focusing only on direct program costs. The current grant offers $5,000–$25,000 per 12-month period and supports youth-led climate initiatives seeking to expand their reach and influence.
The opportunity is particularly useful for grassroots organizations that have strong climate work but limited resources to communicate their impact. Funding can help youth leaders reach underrepresented communities, strengthen their public voice, develop communications capacity, and bring climate issues to the attention of decision-makers across Canada.
Tips for a Strong and Successful Application
- Clearly explain the climate problem
Start with a specific climate or environmental challenge your project addresses and explain why it matters to the communities you serve. - Show exactly how communications will create impact
Don’t simply say you need funding for social media or marketing. Explain what you will produce, who you will reach, and how increased visibility will lead to greater climate action. - Focus on overlooked communities
Explain how your project will reach people who are often excluded from mainstream climate conversations. Demonstrate that your approach is accessible and community-driven. - Present measurable outcomes
Include realistic targets such as the number of people reached, stories produced, campaigns conducted, community members engaged, or decision-makers contacted. - Make the budget highly specific
Break down costs for staff, contractors, software, professional development, advertising, equipment, travel, and other eligible expenses. The fund specifically asks applicants to explain how requested money will be used for marketing and communications. - Demonstrate youth leadership
Clearly identify the young people leading the project and explain their responsibilities, experience, and connection to the issue. Entirely youth-led organizations and projects receive priority in assessment. - Show existing credibility and partnerships
Mention community organizations, climate groups, educators, media partners, or other stakeholders that can help expand the project’s reach. - Keep the proposal focused
Avoid presenting too many unrelated activities. A clear problem → communication strategy → target audience → measurable outcome structure will make the application easier to assess. - Use the optional coaching support
The Youth Harbour allows applicants to review their application with a coach who can provide feedback on project development, budgets, impact measurement, and application responses. - Connect visibility to long-term change
Explain what happens after the grant ends. A strong application should show how the communications work will continue building awareness, engagement, leadership, or climate action beyond the funding period.
