Introduction

Delfina Foundation is a non-profit organisation that supports artistic exchange and the development of creative practices through residency programmes, partnerships, and public initiatives.

In partnership with the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (UK Branch), Delfina Foundation invites applications from contemporary visual artists born in Portugal, Angola, Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau, Cape Verde, or São Tomé and Príncipe for a residency in London.

The residency will take place from 28 June to 17 September 2027, as part of Delfina  Foundation’s summer residency season.

Each year, Delfina Foundation hosts four three-month residency seasons. These are dedicated either to open, independent research or to thematic, collective research focused on a particular issue or idea. This opportunity forms part of the Open Summer 2027 season.

Residency Activities

Alongside dedicated time and space to develop their practice, residents will participate in a programme that includes:

• Guided visits to museums, galleries, non-profit organisations, artist-run spaces, and studios, including visits to institutions outside London.
• Opportunities to meet and engage with artists, curators, academics, and researchers through presentations, studio visits, events, and shared meals.
• Professional development activities, including presentations, critiques, portfolio reviews, and mentoring designed to strengthen artistic practice.
• Opportunities for collaborative exchange and informal interaction with fellow residents through gatherings and meals.

Travel and Living Support

The selected artist will receive a fully funded 12-week residency, including:

• Return economy-class airfare.
• Airport transfers in the UK.
• Reimbursement of visa fees, where applicable.
• A living allowance of £40 per day.
• A £1,200 materials budget.
• A travel pass for London’s public transport network.
• A private bedroom with a desk at Delfina Foundation’s residency house, which accommodates up to eight residents and includes shared bathrooms, laundry facilities, a kitchen, library, and dining room.

Applicant Eligibility

Applicants must:

• Be born in Portugal, Angola, Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau, Cape Verde, or São Tomé and Príncipe. Applicants currently based in the UK are not eligible.
• Be seeking an opportunity to develop their artistic practice through research.
• Be able to demonstrate how an international residency could contribute to their career development and strengthen their local networks.
• Be proficient in English. Interviews will be conducted in English, and applicants must be able to confidently present and discuss their artistic practice and ideas with the interview panel.
