About this Fellowship Opportunity (Apply for POGO SCOR Fellowship Programme 2025 Funded)

This programme is jointly funded by POGO and the Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research (SCOR) and aims to promote training and capacity building leading towards a global ocean observation scheme. The primary goal of the programme is to enhance sustained ocean observations and their applications. Since its launch in 2001, the programme has been highly successful, with 200 fellowships awarded.

The fellowship programme is open to scientists, technicians, postgraduate students (preferably PhD level), and post-doctoral fellows involved in oceanographic work at institutions in developing countries and economies in transition. Applicants must also be citizens of developing countries or economies in transition, as defined by the Development Assistance Committee (DAC) of the OECD. A list of eligible countries can be found in the right-hand menu. Priority is given to applicants in the early stages of their careers with limited international experience.

This fellowship supports training in oceanographic observations rather than research techniques. It offers recipients the opportunity to visit leading oceanographic institutions abroad for a short period (1 to 3 months) to gain hands-on experience in oceanographic data collection, analysis, and interpretation.

Funding and Duration (Apply for POGO SCOR Fellowship Programme 2025 Funded)

For the 2025 POGO-SCOR Fellowship Programme, the training should begin between September 2025 and March 2026.

Due to the current global economic situation, a maximum budget of 5000 Euros per fellow has been set. Preference may be given to shorter-duration fellowships (1-2 months) and/or those requiring shorter travel distances or taking place in cities with lower Cost of Living Indices.

If shortlisted, candidate and prospective host supervisor will be invited for a short interview with the POGO Secretariat.
