What Does the Fortis Fellowship Offer?

Selected fellows take part in a range of learning, mentoring, and networking activities designed to support their personal and professional growth.

  • Global peer network: Connect with people from different countries, industries, and professional backgrounds who share a commitment to creating positive change.
  • Individual mentorship: Get matched with an existing Society member who can offer guidance and help with professional development.
  • Learning and development: Participate in workshops and monthly online sessions covering professional growth, leadership, and collaboration.
  • In-person cohort experience: Join fellow participants in Medellín for two days of dedicated activities before attending the Fortis Summit in June 2027.
  • Lifelong membership: Become part of the Society after the Summit, with an ongoing opportunity to share expertise, introduce members to useful contacts, and contribute to the wider community.

Eligibility Criteria

The Fortis Fellowship considers applicants through four main pillars. These help the selection team understand an applicant’s background, values, achievements, and potential to contribute to society.

  1. Humble beginnings

The programme is intended for people who have experienced financial or socioeconomic barriers and are often the first in their families to pursue their chosen educational or professional path. Applicants should be able to explain how their background has shaped their journey.

  1. A commitment to helping others

Applicants should demonstrate a genuine interest in improving other people’s lives through their work. This does not mean they must work for a nonprofit organisation. People working in healthcare, government, education, law, the arts, banking, small businesses, and startups can all be considered.

  1. Ambition to create meaningful change

The selection process looks at the scale of impact an applicant hopes to achieve, alongside the progress they have already made. Applicants should be able to communicate their long-term vision and provide examples of steps they have taken towards it.

  1. Willingness to support others

The fellowship values people who are prepared to contribute to a shared community. Applicants should be willing to exchange knowledge, help fellow members, make useful introductions, and support others in their professional and personal journeys.

Additional Eligibility Information

  • Educational qualification: No specific degree is required.
  • Work experience: Applicants at different career stages can apply. However, cohorts generally include people with around one to five years of full-time work experience.
  • Professional background: Applications are welcome from all sectors, with particular encouragement for candidates working in the arts, education, government, and healthcare.
  • Geographical eligibility: The fellowship is open to applicants worldwide. For the 2027 cohort, additional recruitment efforts are being directed towards Latin America.
  • Nomination requirements: Existing Society members and partner organisations may nominate candidates, but a nomination does not replace the formal application. All candidates must complete the same application process.
  • Repeat applications: Candidates who were not selected in a previous cycle are welcome to apply again.

Application Deadline

The deadline to apply for the Fortis Fellowship 2027 is 8 November 2026. Interviews are scheduled for November and December 2026, with final decisions expected by the end of January 2027.

Applicants should prepare to explain how their personal background, professional experience, and future ambitions align with the fellowship’s four pillars. They should also be ready to demonstrate how they intend to contribute to the Society and support other members beyond the programme itself.
