Roosevelt Institutes Good Life Residents Fully Funded Fellowship Program 2026 What Good Life Residents Will Do

Participants selected for the Good Life Residents Program will join a collaborative cohort of 3–4 Residents dedicated to a specific policy theme. Throughout the six-month residency, they will work alongside policy experts, advisors, and fellow participants to develop innovative, people-centered solutions to today’s most pressing economic challenges.

As part of the program, Residents will:

• Join a focused cohort of peers working on a shared policy topic.
• Research and write an original policy essay of approximately 1,500 words, presenting a bold vision that aligns with the Roosevelt Institute’s Good Life Agenda.
• Take part in a public showcase event, where they will present and discuss their policy ideas with policymakers, researchers, and the broader public.
• Collaborate with Roosevelt Institute staff to prepare presentations and public engagement activities.
• Contribute to media and communications opportunities, including opinion articles, interviews, and press interactions when applicable.
• Participate in regular discussions with assigned Topic Advisors, Roosevelt staff, and fellow Residents to refine their ideas.
• Act as ambassadors for the Good Life Agenda, promoting its vision through their professional and public networks.

Each Resident will receive $3,000 for participating in the program. In addition, the Roosevelt Institute will cover travel and accommodation expenses, where necessary, for attendance at the program’s final public event.

The residency offers close mentorship and collaboration with leading experts from the Roosevelt Institute and Data & Society. Participants will receive guidance throughout the program from experienced policy professionals and subject-matter specialists.

Each policy area will include:

• 3–4 Good Life Residents working together on a shared topic.
• 1–2 Topic Advisors who will provide strategic guidance, intellectual mentorship, and facilitate discussions during workshops, public events, and policy debates. Advisors may include respected academics, policymakers, government officials, organizers, and industry experts.

AI Residents Program

One of the residency’s featured tracks focuses on the economic impact of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The rapid expansion of AI technologies has significantly influenced financial markets, investment patterns, economic growth, employment, and industrial policy. A substantial share of market value is concentrated among a small number of major technology companies, raising concerns about market concentration, investment risks, and unequal distribution of economic benefits. At the same time, growing AI investments have generated enormous wealth for a limited number of firms while potentially diverting resources from other important sectors and increasing pressure on workers.

In collaboration with Data & Society, the AI Residency invites participants to develop forward-thinking policy proposals that examine how capital flows into generative AI can be better governed and redirected. Residents will explore questions such as:

• How can public policy encourage a more competitive and diverse AI ecosystem?
• What measures can reduce excessive market concentration within the AI industry?
• How can governments ensure that investment in AI also supports other critical sectors of the economy?
• Which regulatory and market-shaping policies can promote the safe development of generative AI while protecting workers’ rights and advancing the public interest?

Through research, collaboration, and policy innovation, AI Residents will contribute fresh ideas aimed at building a more inclusive, balanced, and accountable AI-driven economy.
