Project Overview for Applications Invited from Nonprofits for Enhancing Climate Resilience of India’s Coastal Communities 2026

The Enhancing Climate Resilience of India’s Coastal Communities (ECRICC) initiative—financed by the Green Climate Fund and delivered in collaboration with UNDP—works to strengthen the ability of vulnerable coastal populations in India to cope with climate impacts and intensifying weather-related risks.

Strategic Alignment

The programme is designed to support national and local climate priorities, drawing on:

  • India’s National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC)
  • Proven ecosystem-based adaptation (EbA) practices
  • Community-centered climate adaptation methodologies
  • National and subnational strategies for climate resilience

Its core philosophy is to link ecological sustainability with long-term livelihood stability.

Project Objectives

The ECRICC initiative advances climate resilience by:

  • Restoring coastal and marine ecosystems
  • Supporting climate-adaptive livelihood options for at-risk communities
  • Strengthening policy and governance systems for resilient coastal management

These objectives blend ecological restoration with socio-economic resilience to create durable, community-led adaptation outcomes.

Examples of Key EbA Interventions

  • Mangrove restoration
  • Watershed and catchment management
  • Sustainable fisheries and coastal resource management
  • Climate-resilient agricultural practices

These actions enhance both environmental protection and livelihood opportunities.

What Is Ecosystem-Based Adaptation (EbA)?

Ecosystem-Based Adaptation refers to the use of biodiversity and natural ecosystem functions to help communities adapt to climate change—leveraging nature as a primary tool for resilience and risk reduction.

The Request for Information (RFI) invites expressions of interest from organizations interested in collaborating with UNDP on development-focused components of the Enhancing Climate Resilience of India’s Coastal Communities (ECRICC) initiative. This RFI is not a funding application; rather, it aims to identify capable partners for future engagement under the project’s implementation framework in India.
