Guidance for Applicants
EA Funds aims to keep its application process simple and efficient. Applicants are encouraged to spend around 1–2 hours writing their application, while allowing additional time beforehand to develop and carefully consider their project plan and strategy.
The Short Description and Summary sections receive particular attention during the initial review, so applicants should focus on making these sections clear and substantive. Applications should be concise, with total responses kept below 10,000 characters. EA Funds recommends approximately 2,000–5,000 characters overall.
Applicants should focus on the key arguments supporting their project rather than spending excessive time polishing the application. They are also encouraged to present both the strengths and weaknesses of their proposal honestly rather than trying to oversell it.
EA Funds may contact applicants for additional information and may verify affiliations with organizations mentioned in an application. Applications may also be shared with trusted informal advisors for feedback. Applicants can indicate any information they do not want shared beyond the designated recipients in the application form.
Applicants should submit applications as infrequently as practical. New projects are generally encouraged to apply every 2–6 months, while established organizations should generally apply once a year unless there is a significant reason for additional applications. Applicants should also consider anticipated future expenses and include a contingency in their budget where appropriate.
Many application fields are optional. Applicants who do not wish to provide information should leave those fields blank rather than entering “N/A,” as unnecessary entries can increase processing time.
Applicants who prefer to prepare their responses in Google Docs can copy the complete application form into a blank document and edit their responses there before transferring them back to the application form.
