- Build deeper scientific insight into Arctic environmental and societal transformation
- Support evidence-based decision-making and sustainable development
- Enhance Finland’s position as a knowledgeable, forward-looking Arctic leader
- Promote fair and balanced solutions that consider nature, communities, and the economy together

Funding Information and Duration for Open Call for 2026 Strategic Research Programme The Arctic in Transition 2026 Finland
Funding amount: Around €24 million has been allocated for the initial three-year phase. This total will be divided between the two SRC programs that are currently open.
Funding period:
• First funding phase: 1 October 2026 – 30 September 2029
• Second funding phase: 1 October 2029 – 30 September 2032
Who Can Apply?
Applications must come from research consortia that fulfill the SRC’s eligibility and structural requirements.
Each consortium should include the following core roles:
- Principal Investigator (PI): Provides overall scientific leadership and direction
- Work Package Leaders: Hold appropriate academic backgrounds and oversee specific project components
- Interaction Manager: Coordinates stakeholder engagement and ensures societal relevance and impact
All members in leadership positions must demonstrate strong expertise and experience aligned with the project’s aims and thematic areas.
