Driven by the vision of a world without hunger, Rise Against Hunger India undertakes programs that provide for immediate food and nutrition needs of people while preparing them to have sustainable food and nutrition security. The mission of the organization is to nourish lives, empower communities, respond to emergencies and grow the movement towards ending hunger. In the initial days, programs were largely concentrated in urban locations where NGO partners running schools, orphanages and other programs were supported with nutritious meals packaged by thousands of corporate volunteers and others. In recent years, Rise Against Hunger India has expanded its programs to rural areas with high malnutrition and food insecurity scores in four States (Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Bihar and Jharkhand) to address underlying causes of hunger, malnutrition and food insecurity.

The Capacity Building Specialist will be responsible for enhancing the skills and competencies of staff across all levels of the organization, ensuring they are equipped to meet the strategic goals of Rise Against Hunger India. This role involves identifying skill gaps, facilitating development and delivery of tailored training programs, and fostering a culture of continuous learning and development. The specialist will focus on building capacity in frontline implementation teams, management, and technical teams, while also embedding the organization’s ethos, culture, and values.

- Capacity Enhancement Strategy: Develop and implement a strategic roadmap for ongoing capacity-building initiatives that support the organization’s mission and vision; align capacity-building efforts with organizational changes, such as new hierarchies and reporting structures.
- Competencies and Skill Inventories: Based on organizational priorities and values, refine the core competencies & skills for various levels of staff across the organization.
- Need assessments: Identify and prioritize capacity gaps and training needs at various levels (management, operations, field teams, community leaders) to meet the strategic goals and operational requirements.
- Matching Needs with Opportunities: Prepare a resource inventory of structured programs and courses including Mass Open Online Courses (MOOCs) covering key capacity-building areas.
- Training Modules: Develop in-house programs and training modules on core competencies, soft skills, and core values for all staff; run these programs regularly to ensure 100% of staff have undergone the basic and the refresher training.
- Partnering with Resource Agencies: Based on the training needs identified, connect with training agencies, expert resource groups, institutions, and trainers to develop and deliver high-quality training sessions.
- Coordinate and Manage Capacity Building Programs: Be responsible to coordinate all staff development and capacity enhancement programs and ensure successful completion of individual programs.
- Change Management: Facilitate implementation of change process including transition of staff into new roles, change in reporting structure etc.
- Organizational Culture Integration: Ensure all training programs incorporate the organization’s ethos, culture, values, norms, principles and approaches. Foster a unified organizational culture through consistent messaging and training content.
- Monitoring & evaluation: Establish robust mechanisms to track the effectiveness of training programs, assess learning outcomes, and gather feedback for continuous improvement; use data-driven insights to refine training strategies and enhance program impact.
Qualifications (Capacity Building Specialist NGO Job in Bangalore Apply by 8 May 2025)
- Master’s degree in human resources, social work, organizational development, training & development, or a related field.
- Minimum 5–7 years of experience in capacity building, training, and professional development.
- Experience working in non-profit organizations or similar sectors is an advantage.
- Proven expertise in training design, delivery, and evaluation. Relevant certifications in training and development, project management, or related areas are a plus.
- Proficiency in using training software and tools and familiarity with data analysis and reporting tools.
- Strong understanding of adult learning principles, participatory training methodologies, and mentorship programs.
- Experience in working with diverse teams, including grassroots communities and senior management.
- Ability to collaborate with external resource groups and trainers.
