Balsena

Balsena is the flagship program of Shaishav. It is a Children’s Collective where children learn leadership and citizenship skills through a participatory process. Here children are the active participants who will be aware and empowered on the children’s rights, so that they can take charge of their lives. Apart from real life projects on children’s rights, children will be given training on adolescent education, child rights, life skills, leadership skills, and Wenlido (Personal safety training to girls). This program has a unique approach of being “Preventive, Participatory and Transformational”.

Through Balsena program, we work in the local communities as well as with the local government and private schools. At community’s level, we have Balsena- a children’s collective. The collective consist of different teams in the communities of Bhavnagar, called as ‘Balsena Points.’ We also work with parents, youth, community leaders, corporators and other local leaders, frontline workers such as ASHA, Aanganwadi workers, ANM, etc., who are the main stakeholders in efforts to create ‘Child Friendly Communities.’

In the schools, we work with Adolescent children on their empowerment and protection, as well as child rights and life skills. Here, again the main stakeholders are children, teachers, Principal and school management. Occasionally, we interact with parents as well.

Role of the Program Coordinator-

Understand the Vision, Mission, Goals, Values, Approach and Activities of all programs of Shaishav with in depth understanding of Balsena Program.

1. To do all the planning in advance, ensure effective implementation of programs, monitoring, data management, reporting and evaluation. Based on the planning have to assess needs of capacity building training of the team and make planning to provide this training. To do ongoing monitoring and ensure effective implementation of all programs as per plans.
2. To maintain all monitoring data digitally as well as on papers as per the requirements. Prepare the monthly consolidated reports of entire Balsena program in English as per the formats developed in the requirements. Additionally, prepare the external reports as per the requirements of the funding organizations at the time interval determined by various funding organizations.
3. Content development and Activity designing for Balsena Programs
4. Facilitate sessions during the major training and events.
5. Create and execute evolution tools to capture the impact of the program
6. Provide information, data and report for press note, social media and website for every week for all Balsena programs and promoting Shaishav’s activities in relevant social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Linkedin etc.)
7. Planning, coordinating and executing various programs and events of Balsena program effectively.
8. Conduct regular team meetings to understand the achievements, challenges, and do appropriate problem solving.
9. Preparation of monthly planning in the formats and schedule for Balsena program and team members. Do appropriate data management.
10. To prepare the donor reports and proposals in English as well as maintain communication with donors as and when needed.
11. As a senior team member also participate in other programs of the organization and take responsibilities for the same.
12. Participate in various meetings of the organizations such as Coordination meeting and other meetings as per requirements.
13. Support in creating and managing the social media and updating the website.
14. Assist in state/regional/ national level events organized for capacity building, networking and/or policy advocacy, attend/ represent Shaishav at various forums where necessary. For this you should be willing to travel anywhere.
15. Any other work/ assignment given to you which is related to the objectives and activities of the organization.
16. To adhere to the Vision, Mission and Values of Shaishav with all integrity. To adhere all the policies of Shaishav such as Child Protection Policy.
17. Report to the Executive Director and Program Support Unit Director, Shaishav for all work and assignments.
18. If needed, transferred to other projects of Shaishav viz. Aaranyak which is situated in Dediyapada block of Narmada district or SETU, a Child Rights Resource and Training Centre or any other project of the organization.
19. Expected to take additional responsibilities on a need basis.

Required Qualifications, Experience and Skills:

1) Candidate should be a graduate of any field with minimum 3 to 5 years of working with children through academics or non-academics.
