The ICGEB invites applications for the post of Laboratory Animal Veterinarian as a consultant (part-time on contract) at the Animal Experimentation facilities [ICGEB- animal house and BSLIII-Tuberculosis Aerosol Challenge Facility (TACF)] at ICGEB, New Delhi
POST TITLE: Laboratory Animal Veterinarian as a consultant (part-time on contract)
DUTY STATION: New Delhi
DATE REQUIRED: At the earliest
DURATION & REMUNERATION: The successful candidate shall initially be offered a six- months Special Service Agreement (SSA), renewable based on satisfactory performance.
Salary will be up to Rs 60,000/- to Rs 75,000/- p.m. depending upon experience, qualification and competence.

Master’s Degree in Veterinary Science with valid registration issued by the Veterinary Council of India.

Experience in handling, breeding and maintenance of laboratory animals (mice, rabbits, rats, guinea pigs, etc.), particularly inbred strains. Preference will be given to applicants having experience with transgenic/knockout animals.
Research experience in studies involving laboratory animals.
Experience in health monitoring and genetic monitoring techniques.
Essential knowledge of CPCSEA guidelines and experience in conducting institutional animal ethics committee meetings, etc.
Job duties: for NGO Job in Delhi for Laboratory Animal Veterinarian Consultant Apply By 15 February 2026
to provide veterinary support required to manage the day-to-day running of the affairs of the ICGEB-animal house and TACF, including transgenic and immuno- compromised (SCID) mice facility, with the help of animal house and TACF staff and in coordination with respective Scientist in-charge
to provide expert help to ICGEB-animal house and TACF staff for laboratory animal care, including breeding and maintenance
to ensure the good health of the animals being reared and those involved in the experiments, verifying and authorizing adherence to the animal experimental protocols.
Regular health monitoring of animals at ICGEB-animal house and TACF.
Responsible for the overall Veterinary care and animal welfare at ICGEB-animal house and TACF.
Designing and formulating the dose and dosages for anesthetizing and euthanizing drugs. Designing and reviewing protocols for Anaesthesia, Analgesia, Euthanasia and any other in-vivo protocols. To supervise/carry out anaesthesia and euthanasia as required for ongoing experiments and maintenance. Maintenance of the animal death record in the ICGEB-Animal House and TACF with the help of support staff.
To provide veterinary/ legislative advice to investigators in drafting of research projects to submit for institutional animal ethical clearance.
Implementing the prophylactic and curative measures to keep the colony healthy and disease-free in consultation with the Scientist-in-charge.
Providing training to animal users on animal handling, bio-methodologies (IP, IV, SC, ID, PO), blood and other fluid collection, post-mortem and organ collection.
Participation in the Institutional Animal Ethics Committee (IAEC) as a Veterinarian and advising on animal testing in accordance to the provisions of the relevant Acts, in consultation with the Scientist-in-charge.
To provide support along with ICGEB-animal house staff and TACF staff in organizing IAEC-meeting, maintain records of the meeting and approval of the projects etc.
to provide help to ICGEB-animal house staff and TACF staff in maintaining the records and in organizing the IAEC meeting and animal house review.
Perform any other ongoing or ad-hoc assignments as and when directed by the Director and/or the Administrative Officer
Terms and conditions: for NGO Job in Delhi for Laboratory Animal Veterinarian Consultant Apply By 15 February 2026
The engagement will be purely on a temporary basis and will be extended based on performance and requirements at the institute.
The consultant will be required to be available at the facility on a daily basis during working hours (~ 20 hours/week) as per the requirement at that animal facilities, and as suggested by the concerned Scientist in charge of the animal facility
The consolidated emoluments are only indicative and shall be decided by the Selection Committee for the selected candidate based on his/her relevant experience and qualifications.
This is a consultancy assignment and should not, in any way, be construed as employment.
