How Many Times Can You Apply?
An artist may receive only one Equinox grant per fiscal year, which runs from April 1 to March 31.
Applicants must have submitted Final Reports for previously awarded grants of the same type and must not have any overdue Final Reports for other artsnb grants.
Only one Equinox application per applicant per deadline is allowed.

Who Can Apply?
The Equinox Program supports Indigenous professional artists, including those who are self-taught, traditionally taught or formally trained.
To be eligible, applicants must:
- Be a Canadian citizen, have an affiliation with a First Nation on Turtle Island, be a permanent resident of Canada, or have a permanent residency application in process.
- Have lived in New Brunswick for at least 12 months before the application deadline.
- Meet artsnb’s definition of a professional artist.
Indigenous curators, artist collectives and groups are also eligible. First Nations governing bodies are not eligible.
What Projects Are Eligible?
Eligible projects must be created or led by Indigenous artists working in traditional and/or contemporary art forms.
Projects must begin at least one day after the application submission date.
Collaborative projects involving multiple artists as essential co-creators must provide the additional information required under the program’s collaborative project guidelines.
For larger projects, applicants may apply for separate grants for different phases or activities, provided there is no overlap in expenses and each phase is clearly defined as a separate activity.
Eligible Artistic Disciplines
The program recognizes the following artistic disciplines:
- Architecture
- Craft
- Dance
- Literary Arts
- Media Arts
- Multidisciplinary Arts
- Music
- Theatre
- Visual Arts
Artists working across disciplines or outside these categories can select the discipline closest to their proposed project or contact an artsnb Program Officer for guidance.
Applicants proposing work in a discipline different from their usual practice must demonstrate at least one professional presentation or work in that discipline.
What Projects Are Not Eligible?
The following projects are not eligible:
- Projects that have already received funding from another artsnb program.
- Projects undertaken for academic credit.
- Projects based in primary or secondary schools, which are supported through the Artists in Schools program administered by the Department of Tourism, Heritage and Culture.
What Expenses Are Eligible?
Equinox funding can cover eligible project expenses such as:
- Artist fees and subsistence: For the primary applicant and artistic collaborators. The guideline indicates approximately $3,000 per month per artist, although the amount may vary according to project needs.
- Materials and services: Including consumable materials, space and equipment rentals, professional services, commissions and rights purchases.
- Travel and accommodation: Transportation, travel and accommodation directly related to completing the proposed project.
- Equipment: Equipment purchases of up to $1,500.
Applicants may also consult the recommended fee schedules for their artistic discipline and the Government of New Brunswick’s travel expense policy.
What Should the Application Include?
Applicants are responsible for submitting a complete application by the program deadline.
Mandatory Documents
Applicants must provide:
- Project description: Up to 350 words, or a 3–5 minute audio/video description.
- Project budget: A balanced budget, or a 3–5 minute audio/video explanation of how the grant will be used and any additional sources of revenue.
- Artist CV: Or a 1-minute audio/video description of the applicant’s artistic background.
- Work samples: As required under the program’s Work Samples Guidelines.
