Benefits vary according to each fellowship opportunity. In addition to participating in a research cruise, selected fellows may have the opportunity to spend up to one month at the host institution before the cruise for preparation and planning. They may also be able to return to the host institution for up to one month after the cruise for further training in sample processing, data analysis and interpretation.

Who Can Apply?

The programme is exclusively open to candidates who are nationals of developing countries or countries with economies in transition and are studying or conducting ocean sciences research at institutions in eligible countries, as defined by the OECD Development Assistance Committee (DAC).

Applicants who do not meet these nationality and institutional eligibility requirements will not be considered.

Preference is given to candidates who:

• Have had limited access to similar training opportunities
• Are at an early stage of their careers
• Have limited experience with international training
• Have not recently received a substantial POGO fellowship
