Together, previous cohorts have produced more than 150 profiles across 22 states, highlighting the aspirations, decisions, opportunities, and constraints shaping the lives of young Indians.

Fellowship Experience

In this cohort, fellows will focus specifically on the search for a first job. Every two weeks, fellows will interview a young Indian who is trying to enter the workforce and transform their experience into a compelling story.

Participants may interview:

• College graduates applying for their first jobs
• Apprentices gaining practical workplace experience
• Young people preparing for government recruitment examinations
• Individuals navigating their first months of paid employment
• Other young Indians experiencing the transition from education to work

The fellowship does not require participants to be journalism students or have previous reporting experience. Curiosity, attentive listening, and an ability to understand and communicate the experiences of others are the key qualities sought in applicants.

What Fellows Will Gain

Selected fellows will have the opportunity to:

• Develop practical interviewing, writing, and storytelling skills
• Document real experiences of young Indians entering the workforce
• Receive guidance and feedback from journalists and other professionals
• Participate in regular virtual learning and mentoring sessions
• Build a portfolio of published stories
• Have their work featured through the Foundation’s newsletter, website, and social media platforms

Fellowship Highlights

• Duration: 4 months, fully remote
• Story Output: Two stories per month based on personal interviews with young job-seekers and people beginning their working lives
• Story Length: Each story will be approximately 600–800 words and accompanied by a short video clip or other relevant multimedia material
• Guidance and Mentorship: Regular virtual interactions with journalists and other professionals for feedback, guidance, and storytelling insights
• Publication: Selected work will be featured across the Future of India Foundation’s website, newsletter, and social media platforms
• Honorarium: Fellows will receive an honorarium upon successfully completing the full four-month fellowship and submitting all eight stories
• Certificate: A fellowship certificate will be provided upon successful completion
• Letter of Recommendation: Eligible fellows will also receive a Letter of Recommendation after completing the fellowship
