Apply Now for Canon Foundation Research Fellowships 2025, Each year, the Canon Foundation in Europe awards up to 15 prestigious Fellowships to exceptional researchers from Europe and Japan. These Fellowships are designed to foster cross-cultural academic exchange, with European researchers conducting their studies in Japan, and Japanese researchers pursuing research in Europe.

Fellowships are granted for a minimum of three months and up to one year, offering flexibility and ample time for meaningful research collaborations.

All fields of research are supported—there are absolutely no disciplinary restrictions. Whether you’re affiliated with a university, part of a governmental or industrial organization, or even currently unaffiliated, you’re encouraged to apply.

Canon Fellows enjoy complete freedom to choose their host institutions and collaborators. Applications are accepted once the applicant and host institution have agreed upon a research plan and collaboration framework.

Eligibility Criteria (Apply Now for Canon Foundation Research Fellowships 2025)

All Europeans are eligible to apply (including UK, Israel, Turkey, Balkan and Baltic countries).

Applicants should have obtained at least a Master’s or PhD degree within the last ten years of applying to the Canon Foundation. We will also consider candidates who obtained their qualification more than ten years ago as long as they provide further supporting information in their application.

Please note that priority is given to applicants going to Europe and Japan for the first time.

Stipend

Research Fellows can receive financial support of up to 30,000 Euros annually, with amounts adjusted pro-rata for varying durations. The grant offers flexibility, allowing Fellows to allocate funds according to their specific needs. Whether it’s covering living expenses, travel, insurance, research-related costs, or purchasing books, the choice is entirely in their hands. There are no limitations on how the funds can be utilized, providing unparalleled freedom to manage resources effectively.

Application Process (Apply Now for Canon Foundation Research Fellowships 2025)

• The next application deadline will be 15 September 2025 for applications starting between January and December 2026.
• The Selection Committee’s final decision will be emailed to applicants by mid-December 2025.
• It is important to note that we do not enter into any correspondence in regard to decisions taken on any individual application and in view of the large number of applicants, no negative inference should be drawn from the failure of a candidate to secure a Fellowship.
• We give priority to those who plan to travel to Europe or Japan rather than prolong a current stay.
• Applications should be made through our online application form. After registering, you will be directed to the application form and you will see the documents which should be uploaded to your application in order for it to be considered complete.
