The Stanford Science Fellowships are designed for exceptional early-career scientists pursuing fundamental experimental or theoretical research in the natural sciences. Proposals primarily focused on social sciences are not eligible.

Participating schools include the Doerr School of Sustainability and the Schools of Medicine, Humanities and Sciences, and Engineering.
Applicants cannot hold a paid or unpaid Stanford position during the selection process, which runs through the end of February. Therefore, current Stanford graduate students and postdocs are not eligible. Prospective postdocs who will begin a Stanford appointment before March 1, 2027, are also ineligible.
International scholars may apply. However, those requiring an H-1B employment visa are not eligible. International fellows generally need to qualify for a J-1 visa, although an F-1 extension may be appropriate in some cases.
Application Process
Applications must be submitted through Academic Jobs Online. Applicants of all nationalities are welcome.
Required materials include:
- Curriculum Vitae: Include publications, full legal name, contact details, and the expected or completed PhD date.
- Cover Letter
- Three Recommendation Letters: Up to four letters may be submitted. A letter from the PhD advisor is recommended.
- Career Statement: Up to two pages covering career goals, relevant experience, and how the applicant would contribute to the Stanford Science Fellows Program.

Terms of Appointment
