The programme welcomes applications from all fields of nursing research. However, priority will be given to projects that focus on transitional care and nursing within the primary healthcare sector.
Postdoctoral Fellowships in Nursing Research 2026 Application Open Now Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be a registered nurse
- Hold a PhD degree (or an equivalent academic qualification), or have their PhD approved for defence before the application deadline. The PhD must be officially awarded before the fellowship begins
- There is no restriction based on the number of years since completing the PhD
- Be affiliated with a university, university college, hospital, or another non-profit research institution in Denmark throughout the fellowship period
- Include the name of a mentor, supervisor, or research group leader, who must agree to participate in the project
- Submit a hosting letter signed by the head of the hosting department confirming that the institution will host the project, administer the grant, and provide the necessary office and research facilities
Postdoctoral Fellowships in Nursing Research 2026 Application Open Now Application Rules
- The fellowship is awarded to individual applicants and cannot be shared with others
- Only one application may be submitted per call
- Applicants may submit only one proposal for the same research project in a calendar year. Duplicate or nearly identical applications submitted to different calls within the same year will be rejected administratively
- Researchers may submit applications for different projects or grant types within the same year
- Applicants who already hold an active NNF grant of one type are eligible to apply for a different type of grant
Postdoctoral Fellowships in Nursing Research 2026 Application Open Now Funding Details
The programme offers up to DKK 7.3 million in total funding. Individual applicants can receive up to DKK 2.43 million for research projects lasting up to three years.
Applicants also have the option to undertake the fellowship part-time if they wish to combine research with clinical work. In such cases:
- At least 50% of working time must be dedicated to the fellowship project
- The fellowship period will be extended accordingly
- The budget should still represent a full-time three-year project
- The total funding request cannot exceed DKK 2.43 million
- Part-time arrangements must be clearly explained in the budget notes
Postdoctoral Fellowships in Nursing Research 2026 Application Open Now Eligible Expenses
Funding may be requested for project-related costs, including:
- Salary for the principal applicant
- Salary for a research technician or research nurse
- Operating costs, including project implementation, materials, equipment, statistical analysis, and data processing
- Conference, workshop, and research presentation travel expenses of up to DKK 25,000 per budget year
- Project-related travel, including research stays abroad, provided the visit is fully described and supported by documentation from the host institution
- Publication costs for project findings of up to DKK 25,000 per budget year
- Bench fees to cover direct research expenses, clearly specified in the budget
- Administrative support expenses, which may account for up to 5% of the total project budget
