Expected Results (Apply for Enhancing the Capacity of Parliament to address Childrens Issues Ghana Grant Opportunity 2025)
The following are expected outcomes during the period of the overall programme:
- Manuals with proposals for more inclusive parliamentary processes available for adoption
- MPs at Committee level and Support Staff receive insights into reports/reporting on children’s rights (e.g. the CRC, UPR, etc) and commit to use them in reviewing legislative Bills placed before the House
- MPs at Committee level and Support Staff receive outcomes and recommendations of survey results/reports (MICS, GDHS, GLSS, etc). and commit to use them in reviewing Budgets and Policies placed before Parliament
- MPs and Support Staff receive outcomes from UNICEF’s Budget Briefs, Open Budget Survey (OBS), District League Table and other reports, and make commitments to utilize the outcomes for decision-making in Parliament around resource allocation and PFM issues
- Capacity and skills of UNICEF staff and UNICEF’s CSO partners enhanced to enable them engage and collaborate with Parliament to promote and secure child rights. 6. Parliamentary Caucus on Children formed to follow upon on social sector/children-related Bills before Parliament to ensure their early passage.
Overall Anticipated Results
- Sustained interaction with Parliamentarians will ensure there is use of evidence and knowledge acquired to influence policies, legislations and budgets
- The MPs will support child-friendly and pro-poor legislation.
- It will enhance the prioritization of child-friendly and pro-poor investment through National Budget approval processes.
- The MPs will become advocates for child-friendly and pro-poor policies within their political parties and their manifestoes.
- It will enable the MPs monitor and support child-friendly and pro-poor interventions in their Constituencies and Districts.
- When appointed to Ministerial posts, they will support the funding and implementation of policies and programmes that will create the greatest benefits for children in Ghana.
