Overview of
(Apply for UN Grant Opportunity 2025 Implementation of General Food Assistance in Kyangwali Refugee Settlement and Hosting District Uganda)
The World Food Programme’s latest initiative in Uganda’s western region targets multiple sectors to support food-insecure refugees, asylum seekers, and host communities. Key areas of focus include food security—delivering both cash and in-kind assistance—and livelihood enhancement through community mobilization, microfinance, revolving loan schemes, and self-reliance programming.
Nutrition interventions will promote infant and young child feeding and address malnutrition prevention and treatment, with a focus on vulnerable groups such as children under five, and pregnant or breastfeeding women and girls. These groups will receive nutrient-rich foods and tailored support to prevent and manage undernutrition.
Protection activities are also integrated, ensuring the safety and dignity of affected populations. Additionally, Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) will reinforce nutrition-sensitive practices, and beneficiaries will be linked to complementary services to holistically address their food and nutritional needs.
The program aims to strengthen institutional and government capacities for effective planning, targeting, and delivery of aid to refugee populations. It also promotes diversified livelihood strategies, climate-smart agriculture, capacity building, and social empowerment to drive self-reliance and long-term food security.
A notable feature includes the digitization of Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLAs) and enhanced access to formal financial services.
Proposal selection will be based on several criteria, including community accountability, security access, clarity of activities and expected results, cost-effectiveness, innovation, resource contribution, experience with the UN system, and local presence and expertise.
