Apply for WUN Research Development Fund 2025, The Worldwide Universities Network (WUN) is excited to launch the 2025 round of its Research Development Fund (RDF). Now in its sixteenth year, the RDF offers grants of up to £10,000 to support collaborative research initiatives among member universities, encouraging cross-border partnerships and innovative academic projects.
Applicants are encouraged to carefully review the full details and submit their applications before the specified deadline to seize this grant opportunity.

Overview of (Apply for WUN Research Development Fund 2025)
Since 2009 the WUN Research Development Fund (RDF) has directly invested over £3.2 million to establish research projects on problems of global significance, and on which researchers from member universities, working together, can make real progress.
The RDF 2025 Round continues WUN’s commitment to supporting research that addresses sustainable development. The RDF 2025 Guidelines, have been developed following consultation with the WUN Academic Advisory Group.
Proposals may be submitted only by researchers at WUN member universities, and must be endorsed by the local WUN Academic Advisory Group member. Proposals are welcome from researchers across all career stages, with projects led by early career researchers especially encouraged.
Applications must be completed on our online application portal by Friday 17 October 2025 at 21.00 UK time. Please note, however, that each university has its own internal deadlines. If you are considering submitting a proposal, you should first contact your local WUN Coordinator.
Focus of (Apply for WUN Research Development Fund 2025)
In line with the WUN Strategic Plan 2023-2026, we encourage proposals that address problems in one or more of the following areas within the context of sustainable development:
- Social justice and human rights; inequality
- Sustainable world: cities and urbanization; energy transitions; water, and food security
- Mental health; child and maternal health; ageing
- Responsible and ethical applications of Artificial Intelligence
Eligibility (Apply for WUN Research Development Fund 2025)
The RDF is open to academic staff (faculty members) at WUN member universities. Project teams. A project must engage at least three WUN member universities across at least two regions2 . Projects may include non-WUN universities and external partners but must have an active core of WUN member universities. Projects led by early career researchers are especially encouraged.3 Matching funds: In the past, awards made from the RDF required matching support from the applicants’ home universities. Matching cash contributions are encouraged but not required and will not factor in the review.
