About the Policy for Open Call 2026 for Students Grants Prize Support for Rebuilding Trust in Governance Nigeria

The Policy Challenge is a dynamic competition designed to bring together some of Africa’s brightest young thinkers and emerging leaders from tertiary institutions to develop innovative, research-driven policy solutions for Nigeria’s most urgent governance and development challenges.

The initiative encourages undergraduate students to actively participate in critical policy discussions and collaborative problem-solving. Participants are tasked with creating evidence-based policy proposals centered around a specific theme while gaining valuable insight into how public policies are developed and implemented.

Through this competition, students enhance their skills in analyzing complex societal issues, crafting practical and actionable policy recommendations, and effectively communicating ideas capable of influencing public decision-making. The Policy Challenge also offers participants opportunities for mentorship, networking, collaboration, and engagement with professionals from the fields of governance, public policy, academia, and development.

Eligibility Criteria for Open Call 2026 for Students Grants Prize Support for Rebuilding Trust in Governance Nigeria

Applicants interested in participating in the Policy Challenge must meet the following requirements:

  • Who Can Apply: The competition is open to undergraduate students currently enrolled either full-time or part-time in a Nigerian tertiary institution during the 2025/2026 academic session.
  • Age Requirement: Participants must be at least 18 years old by August 2026.
  • Team Composition: Teams must consist of a minimum of 2 members and a maximum of 4 members. All participants within a team must belong to the same tertiary institution.
  • Finalist Requirement: Teams shortlisted as finalists must ensure that all members are available to attend the Policy Conference scheduled to take place in Abuja on August 12, 2026.

1st Place: N2,000,000 + 3-month Paid Internship

2nd Place: N1,000,000

3rd Place: N750,000

Top (10) Finalists

Will have their proposals published in the 2026 Policy Challenge Compendium

 

How to Submit Your Entry

Submission Guidelines

  • Deadline: May 29, 2026 – 11:59 PM CST
  • Accepted Formats: PDF or DOCX
  • Word Limit: 2,000 to 4,000 words (excluding references)

Your Policy Proposal Must Include

  • Abstract (250–350 words): A clear and concise overview of your proposal.
  • Policy Background: Relevant context and background information on the issue being addressed.
  • Problem Statement: Explanation of why the selected policy area requires reform or intervention.
  • Two or More Policy Options: Presentation of practical and innovative policy solutions.
  • Recommended Action: Selection of the most effective option supported by strong justification.
  • Evidence and Data: Reliable research, facts, and data to support your arguments.
  • Bibliography: Properly cited references and sources.

Application Process

Step 1: Download and carefully review the Rulebook, as it contains all the important information, guidelines, and submission requirements for the competition.

Step 2: Team members should decide on a unique team name. The team leader will then register the team name along with the details of all team members.

Step 3: The team leader must upload and submit the team’s policy proposal in either PDF or DOCX format.

Once the submission process is completed successfully, a confirmation email will be sent to the registered email address.
