To ensure steady progress, BIRAC-supported innovations are continuously tracked using the BIRAC Technology Readiness Level (TRL) framework, which measures development stages from level 1 to 9. Existing schemes primarily focus on supporting product development and rigorous validation up to the pre-commercialization stage.

However, once a technology or product reaches advanced validation (TRL 7 or above) and is ready for market entry, additional financial support is often required. This includes funding for market preparation, targeted test validation, and scaling up for large-scale commercialization—areas not fully addressed by existing programmes.

To bridge this critical gap, BIRAC has introduced a dedicated funding mechanism under the Product Commercialization Programme (PCP), known as the PCP Fund, aimed at enabling successful market launch and commercialization of mature innovations.

The Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council Product Commercialization Programme (PCP) Fund is designed to fast-track the transition of biotechnology innovations from validation to market. The fund specifically supports:

• Accelerating market launch readiness of biotechnology products and technologies
• Enabling pilot market validation in real-world conditions
• Supporting large-scale commercialization and deployment

Importantly, Indian start-ups with nationally relevant innovations at Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 7 or above are eligible for consideration, regardless of whether the product was previously funded by BIRAC.

Who Can Apply for Open Call for BIRAC Product Commercialization Program Fund Opportunity 2026 by Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council?

Eligible applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Indian start-ups incorporated within 10 years from the date of the call announcement (as per incorporation certificate)
• The entity must have at least 51% Indian shareholding, duly certified by a CA/CS with a valid UDIN
• A minimum of 51% shareholders must be Indian citizens, holding a valid Indian passport
