Apply Now for Grant Opportunity 2026 Illuminating Climate Solutions Program National Geographic Society, Stories shape how we understand the world, and today, they matter more than ever. In an age overwhelmed by constant noise and countless competing causes, authentic storytelling has the unique power to rise above the clutter, connect emotionally, and inspire meaningful action. Recognizing this, National Geographic Society and The Climate Pledge are joining forces to spotlight climate resilience and innovative solutions through compelling human stories from across the globe.
Climate action is often discussed through numbers and statistics such as rising temperatures, carbon emissions, and shrinking coastlines. Yet, the strongest call for action does not come from data alone. It comes from the lived experiences of people and communities already facing the realities of climate change. It comes from those rebuilding after disasters, adapting to new environmental challenges, and pioneering solutions for a more sustainable future. These human-centered stories have the power to make climate change real, relatable, and urgent.
Through this partnership, the National Geographic Society is seeking story ideas that highlight both scientific innovation and community resilience in the face of a rapidly changing planet. From groundbreaking research to local adaptation efforts, every proposed story must focus on solutions and actionable responses. Because shaping a better future begins with changing the narratives we share today.
The National Geographic Society and The Climate Pledge will support a global network of Explorers in creating a diverse portfolio of storytelling projects centered on climate resilience and solutions. These stories aim to build a powerful legacy that can influence business leaders, policymakers, and communities worldwide to take decisive climate action. Importantly, this funding opportunity is open to both existing Explorers and individuals who are not yet part of the Explorer community.
