Applicant Eligibility

- Applicants are welcome to secure additional financing from other sources, and the overall project budget may exceed $50,000.
Mandatory Crew Hiring and Greenlight Alberta Trainee Placements
A key requirement of this funding program is that successful productions must provide practical training opportunities for Greenlight Alberta certified students.
The initiative follows a Department Head and Mentee model, where experienced crew members mentor emerging professionals during production.
Responsibilities of the Filmmaker
The production team must independently recruit and compensate experienced department heads, such as:
- Key First Assistant Director (1st AD)
- Production Manager
- Key Production Assistant (PA)
These professionals are expected to provide hands-on supervision, mentorship, and guidance to the trainee crew members assigned to the production.
Program-Supported Crew Assignments
The program will assign certified Greenlight Alberta participants to the production in the following areas:
- Assistant Directors (ADs): Up to 18 placements, mentored by the production’s Key 1st AD.
- Production Coordinators: Up to 12 placements, mentored by the Production Manager or Producer.
- Production Assistants (PAs): Up to 8 placements, mentored by the Key PA or Production Coordinator.
Overall, productions should be prepared to accommodate approximately 15 to 20 trainee placements on set.
Crew Compensation
All crew expenses, including the student placement positions assigned by the program, must be included in the project’s production budget.
Although the program does not prescribe fixed day rates, all crew members must be compensated in accordance with Alberta Employment Standards and cannot receive wages below the provincial minimum wage.

Filmmakers will retain 100% ownership of their project.
Edmonton Screen will not claim any copyright, intellectual property, ownership stake, or distribution rights in the completed film.
However, successful applicants must provide a prominent on-screen acknowledgement to Edmonton Screen as a funding partner, either in the opening credits, end credits, or both.
