About SVRI

The Sexual Violence Research Initiative (SVRI) is a global organisation committed to advancing research on violence against women (VAW) and child sexual violence (CSV), and other forms of gender-based violence (GBV) in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Since 2014, SVRI has supported close to USD 11 million in research across LMICs, building a network of researchers, practitioners, and policymakers working to address violence driven by gender inequalities. Eligibility and Requirements

To apply for the SVRI Data to Evidence Grant 2027, proposals must meet several key requirements.

Proposal Requirements

All applications must:

• Be led by a researcher or research team based in a low- or middle-income country (LMIC) according to World Bank classifications.
• Present a clear and focused research question that can be answered through secondary analysis of an existing, ethically sourced dataset.

• Demonstrate strong ethical practices when handling sensitive violence-related data, including confidentiality and responsible reporting of findings.
• Provide a realistic budget and work plan that can be completed within the 12-month grant period.

Submit Application for SVRI Data to Evidence Grant 2027 Eligibility Criteria

The lead applicant must meet the following conditions:

• Be based at an LMIC university, research institution or NGO.
• Independent individuals, consultants and applicants working for for-profit companies are not eligible.
• Use a dataset that has been ethically sourced and for which the applicant has the necessary permission and approval.
• Not currently hold another active SVRI research grant and must not have previously received an SVRI grant.
• An institution that previously received an SVRI grant may apply if that grant is no longer active. Preference may be given to organisations that have never received an SVRI grant.
• Researchers from any LMIC are eligible, with no additional country restrictions.

Grant Amount

Each successful applicant can receive between USD 30,000 and USD 50,000. SVRI has allocated a total of USD 400,000 for this funding round and expects to support approximately 8 to 13 grants, depending on the budgets requested.

Grant Duration

The grant can run for a maximum of 12 months from the date the grant agreement is signed. Applicants should ensure that their proposed schedule allows sufficient time for data analysis, writing and dissemination within this period.

Eligible Expenses

Funding can be used for reasonable costs directly associated with the proposed secondary data analysis, including:

• Salaries or researcher time for the lead researcher and co-investigators.
• Data access and data-cleaning costs, where required.
• Statistical and analytical software that is not already available at the applicant’s institution.
• Research assistants and other support staff directly involved in the analysis.
• Dissemination activities, such as policy briefs, presentations at relevant forums and translation.
• Institutional overheads of up to 15% of the total grant budget.

Applicants are encouraged to use free and open-source tools such as R or Python where possible. If licensed software is necessary, the budget may include a single-user licence for the grant period, up to USD 1,000, with justification.

Expenses Not Covered

The grant does not cover:

• Primary data collection.
• Travel or conference expenses that are not directly connected to disseminating the project’s findings.
• Equipment purchases that are not essential for conducting the proposed analysis.
• Institutional overheads exceeding the 15% limit.
