Seed Grants for Media Outlets to Cover Natural Resource Management and Green Growth in Nepal 2026 Apply Now, Internews’ Earth Journalism Network (EJN) is offering two grants of €4,500 each to media outlets in Nepal to support the development of new media programming focused on natural resource management and inclusive green growth.
Applicants are advised to carefully review the eligibility criteria and application guidelines, as these sections contain essential information for participation.
Overview
Nepal is increasingly facing disasters linked to unplanned development and unsustainable exploitation of natural resources. Climate-driven hazards—such as recent droughts in the Terai region, recurring glacial lake–related disasters in mountainous areas (including incidents in Rasuwa, Limi Valley, and Thame), and flooding in Sudhurpaschim—affect approximately 75,840 people annually. In 2025 alone, the country recorded 44,000 climate-related disaster events.
Research indicates that Nepal could lose up to 2.2% of its annual GDP by 2050 due to climate change impacts. While the urgency for effective natural resource governance, green growth, and climate resilience is increasing, public frustration continues to grow amid perceived corruption and the limited effectiveness of existing policies and programs.
Following the adoption of federalism under the 2015 Constitution, Nepal decentralized authority across federal, provincial, and local governments, granting greater fiscal power to local bodies to enhance accountability and decision-making. Consequently, regulations related to forest management, infrastructure development, and the sharing of natural resource revenues are currently being developed or revised.
However, this transition has also led to intergovernmental conflicts and policy inconsistencies, driven by overlapping mandates and duplicated responsibilities among different levels of government.
At this critical moment, the Nepali media has a vital role to play in strengthening coverage of natural resource management and green growth. Journalists can help raise public awareness, scrutinize governance processes, improve accountability, and report on how federal, provincial, and local authorities can collaborate to ensure the sustainable use of resources such as rivers, agricultural land, mines, mountains, rangelands, and forests, while ensuring equitable sharing of revenues.
To support this effort, Internews’ Earth Journalism Network, through its Media for Inclusive Green Growth (MIGG) in Nepal project, is providing seed grants of up to €4,500 along with mentorship to two selected media outlets. These grants are funded by the European Union.
Applicants are encouraged to carefully review the full details and submit their applications before the specified deadline to seize this grant opportunity.

Project themes and objectives for Seed Grants for Media Outlets to Cover Natural Resource Management and Green Growth in Nepal 2026 Apply Now
The objective of these grants is to increase the capacity of the media in Nepal to provide innovative and solutions-oriented information on green growth and natural resource management to the public and policymakers. The grants are intended to seed new programs, columns or sections that focus on these issues, or integrate these issues into existing popular programs. Over the course of the grant period, we expect that selected media outlets will each design and pilot a new program, producing at least two stories or episodes as proof of concept.
Note: This is not a regular reporting series or fellowship story grant.
Building on the outputs of the first cohort of media grantees, we are now seeking media programming ideas that provide information on but are not limited to the following issues:
The impacts of poor governance and inefficient budgetary disbursement on natural resources
Corruption and mismanagement practices in natural resource management; identifying corrupt practices that hinder the country’s green growth
Natural resource fiscal management, benefit sharing, and ownership mechanisms; royalty distribution and community participation
The impacts of unplanned and/or unmonitored development activities on natural resources such as riverine ecosystems and freshwater biodiversity, infrastructure development on mountain ecosystems, etc.
Government strategies, policies and potentially scalable solutions to manage Nepal’s natural resources more effectively
Efforts of Indigenous and local community practices that enhance green growth and support climate resilience
Accountability and transparency over natural resource management
We are particularly keen to support media products that amplify the voices and perspectives of marginalized and minority communities, create space for constructive dialogues and better inform communities, which in turn intensifies public pressure on policymakers to act.
