Overview for Workshop Invite by Earth Journalism Network for 2026 communicators and content creators on renewable energy India
The Andhra Pradesh Integrated Clean Energy Policy, released in 2022, highlights the state’s immense renewable energy potential. Estimates indicate that Andhra Pradesh could generate up to 38.50 gigawatts (GW) of solar power and 198.24 GW of wind power (at heights of 120 and 150 meters), along with an additional 43.89 GW of pumped storage potential (PSP) across 39 sites. The state also holds strong prospects for hybrid energy systems that combine wind, solar, and PSP, positioning it as a prime location for projects capable of delivering round-the-clock (RTC) renewable power.
Despite this significant potential, key questions remain: how much of this capacity has actually been realized? What steps are needed for Andhra Pradesh to contribute effectively to India’s ambitious target of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030? What opportunities lie ahead, and what challenges must be addressed to unlock this potential?
Achieving a successful clean energy transition will require broad public awareness, support, and participation. In this context, communicators and content creators play a crucial role in shaping public understanding—explaining the importance of renewable energy and highlighting practical pathways for change.
To strengthen informed storytelling around these issues, Internews’ Earth Journalism Network (EJN) is organizing a workshop for social media content creators (including influencers) and communicators from print, digital, radio, television, and social media platforms. The workshop will take place in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, from May 14–16, 2026.
Applicants from Andhra Pradesh and neighboring states will receive priority consideration, while those from Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, and Uttar Pradesh will be given secondary preference.
Selected participants will have the opportunity to learn from industry experts, subject specialists, and community leaders. The program also includes a field visit to observe renewable energy projects on the ground, along with interactive sessions with experienced mentors. Participants will benefit from hands-on training in areas such as combating misinformation, solutions journalism, content creation, and effective communication strategies.
