Applications are now open for Funding Support for Training 2026 on Dementia Mental Health and Brain Ageing in Africa, The primary objective of this programme is to support and strengthen the skills of graduate students, early-career researchers (ECRs), and fellows across Africa. The School will provide comprehensive training for biomedical and medical graduates, as well as residents in neurology, psychiatry, and pathology, covering the full spectrum of neurodegenerative disorders. The programme aims to deepen participants’ understanding of diseases that contribute to disability, mental health conditions, and dementia while enhancing their research and clinical expertise.

The school/workshop focuses on a broad range of neurodegenerative and vascular disorders that contribute to disability and dementia. Throughout the programme, participants will explore different aspects of neurodegeneration, with each day dedicated to a specific topic. Training will cover subjects such as the pathophysiology and neuropathology of common dementias, eye-related neurological disorders, movement disorders, and mental health conditions, including depression.

Afternoon sessions will emphasize practical learning through clinical case discussions and experimental models. Evening activities will include training in neuropsychological assessment, research ethics, the history of influential neuropsychiatrists, and essential academic skills such as abstract writing, manuscript preparation, and effective oral presentations. Participants may also receive instruction on identifying key diagnostic features of neurodegenerative diseases using digital pathology records, depending on the available schedule.
