Applications are open to SFU Adjunct, Assistant, Associate, and Full Professors. Proposals must involve collaboration between faculty members representing at least two distinct and non-adjacent academic disciplines. Number of Awards

A total of two Amplification Grants will be awarded during the current funding cycle:

  • One grant is open to all eligible applicants.
  • One grant is reserved for an Indigenous-led project or initiative.
Eligible Use of Funds

Grant funds must be utilized within one year of the award date. Funding will be disbursed in stages, with 70% provided at the start of the project and the remaining 25% released upon completion of a mutually agreed milestone or deliverable.

Examples of eligible expenses include:

  • Workshop and event organization costs
  • Travel and transportation expenses
  • Community-based stipends and honoraria
  • Data acquisition and research-related purchases
  • Facilitation and engagement activities
  • Administrative and coordination costs directly related to the project
Ineligible Expenses

The grant cannot be used to cover:

  • Personnel or administrative expenses associated with existing projects or programs
  • Gifts, entertainment, or other non-project-related expenditures

2026 Amplification Grant iSFU Climate Innovation is looking for high-impact projects, that are interdisciplinary in nature, and that have the potential to advance transformative climate actions and innovation for communities, locally and globally. The following criteria will be used to assess those projects that are likely to have the highest impact:

Interdisciplinary: The project is conceived from an interdisciplinary perspective, including collaborating faculty from at least two disciplines, either across faculties or schools within faculties, aligned with community-centred partners to generate new insights and solutions that transcend traditional disciplinary and sectoral boundaries.

Evidence of Equitable, Reflexive and Multiple Research Perspectives: The project demonstrates commitment to multiple perspectives and articulates personal reflexivity.

Feasibility – Challenge: The degree to which the problem or challenge being addressed is significant and clearly articulated.

Novelty: The degree to which the proposal represents a world-leading approach or significant ‘first of its kind’ project not yet attempted by other groups.

High Reward – Impact: The degree to which the project represents social, economic, environmental or health impact. The degree to which the project outcomes supports breakthrough and discovery.

Community Co-Creation: The degree to which co-creation, engagement and reciprocity with Indigenous nations, communities, societies or individuals is integrated.

Note regarding unsuccessful projects: The SFU Climate Innovation team will keep an updated database of relevant projects we have received applications for and will look for appropriate partners and funding to support the development of these projects wherever possible.
